Replace the Lenses or Buy New Glasses? Prices in Chile
Replacing the lenses of your glasses in Chile costs from CLP $39.900 all-inclusive — custom cutting, fitting and shipping both ways — or $14.900 in service if you already have the lenses and only need the fitting. A comparable new pair starts several times higher. The honest rule: solid frame, renew it; worn-out frame, move on.
That rule covers 90% of what reaches our lab, but the remaining 10% has nuances worth real money. This article compares both routes in Chilean pesos, without romance: what renewing costs, when each option wins, and how to decide in five minutes with your glasses in hand.
Renew vs buy: the comparison in pesos
The renewal prices are ours and they are closed; a new pair depends on brand and channel, so we will not invent other people's numbers. The comparison looks like this:
| Your situation | Renew the lenses (ReFramed) | Buy a new pair |
|---|---|---|
| Scratched sun lenses, solid frame | From CLP $39.900 per pair, all-inclusive | Full list price of whichever model you choose |
| You want polarized or top of the line | Polarized from $39.900 · organic non-polarized $49.900 · Elite line $59.900 | Premium models run several times the cost of renewing |
| Your prescription changed, the frame still fits | $24.990 (CR39 with anti-reflective) or $39.900 (anti-reflective + blue-light filter + scratch-resistant), plus $14.900 service | New frame plus prescription lenses, starting from zero |
| You already bought the lenses yourself | $14.900 for the fitting, both shipping legs included | Not applicable |
| Cracked frame, worn-out hinges | We do not recommend it: that is mounting lenses on a frame about to fail | The honest option |
One clarification about the middle column: "all-inclusive" means exactly that — cutting to your model's shape, installation and both Bluexpress legs are already inside the number. No new line items appear at checkout.
When lens replacement is the right call
The frame is solid and the lenses are not. The most common case: years of beach and windshield scratches, pitting, delamination. If the frame closes firmly and does not wobble, new lenses bring it back to optical day one from $39.900 — and you keep a frame already molded to your face.
The model is not sold anymore. If your favorite frame is discontinued, buying "the same one" is impossible and buying another is starting over. Lens replacement is the only way to keep it.
Your prescription changed, your frame did not. If the frame still fits, we cut prescription lenses — single-vision or progressive — for the same frame, with the price closed before you order.
You would rather not trash a good frame. A quality frame outlives several generations of lenses. Reusing it costs a fraction of replacing it, and it is one less piece of plastic headed to a landfill.
When a new pair is the right call
There are clear answers here too, and we would rather give them before charging you:
- The frame will not hold. Loose hinges that no longer close firmly, dry or brittle plastic, cracked rims, or a warped bridge nobody has managed to straighten: mounting new lenses on that is throwing money away, and we will say so in your quote.
- The frame never fit you. If it pinches, slides or you stopped wearing it out of discomfort, new lenses will not fix a fit problem.
- Your use changed. An office frame does not become a sports frame no matter how good the new lenses are.
- The frame is worth less than the work. On very low-end frames the fitting can exceed the frame's own value; the math simply does not work.
In those cases the straight answer is that the pair has completed its cycle. Where and what to buy is up to you — we do not sell new glasses; our lane is making the pair you already own perform like new again.
How it works if you decide to renew
The process is built so you never leave home — or you can drop by the shop if you are close:
- Get a quote for lens replacement, telling us the brand, the model and what happened to your glasses.
- Find your model among our replacement lenses if it is a Ray-Ban, Oakley or another known brand: much of the catalog is already cut and ready to order.
- Need a prescription? We make prescription sunglass lenses and prescription lenses for your own frame, price closed before you order.
- Want the full price breakdown? The complete table, with what each price includes, lives in how much lens replacement costs in Chile.
Logistics: your frame travels to our lab and back to your door by Bluexpress, both legs inside the price. Sun lenses are ready in 24-48 business hours; prescription work depends on your formula, so the timeline is confirmed with your quote. Prefer in person? We are at Santa Magdalena 41, Local 5, Providencia — same price either way.

The verdict in one sentence
Pick up your glasses and check the frame: if the hinges close firmly, no rim is cracked and the fit still works, renewing the lenses wins — from CLP $39.900 all-inclusive, back in 24-48 business hours for sun lenses. If the frame fails that test, it has served its time: let it go knowing it was the right call.
