How to Find Your Sunglasses Model Number

Ordering replacement lenses starts with one thing: knowing exactly which model you own. The good news — every quality pair of sunglasses has its model number printed right on it. Here is how to find it in under a minute.

Look at the inside of the temple arm

Take your sunglasses off and look at the inner side of the temple arm — the arm that goes over your ear. Most brands print or engrave the model information there. You are looking for a combination of letters and numbers, and usually a size code next to it.

What the codes look like, brand by brand

  • Ray-Ban: starts with "RB" followed by four digits — for example RB4165 (Justin) or RB2140 (Original Wayfarer). Next to it you will see the lens size in millimeters, like "54□16".
  • Oakley: starts with "OO" followed by four digits — for example OO9102 (Holbrook). Some older models use "24-" or "12-" codes.
  • Maui Jim: usually "MJ" plus a number, or a style name printed with the size.
  • Costa: a two-or-three letter style code (like "WJ" for Waterjack) plus lens size.

Can't read it anymore?

On well-loved frames the printing sometimes wears off. Try these:

  1. Check the original case, box or receipt — the model is usually printed there.
  2. Look for the model on the nose bridge or inside the opposite temple arm.

Why the size code matters

Many models come in more than one lens size (for example, Holbrook and Holbrook XL). The number before the little square (like 54□16) is the lens width in millimeters — make sure it matches what you select on the product page, and your new lenses will snap in perfectly.
