How to Install Your Replacement Lenses (Step by Step)

Replacing your own sunglass lenses sounds intimidating the first time — but with the right technique it takes less than five minutes, no tools required. Here is the method our opticians recommend.

Before you start

• Wash your hands and work over a soft surface (a towel on a table is perfect) so nothing gets scratched if a lens pops free.
• Warm frames are flexible frames: if your frame is acetate/plastic, leave it in a warm spot or warm it gently with a hair dryer on low for 20–30 seconds. Never use hot water on frames with coatings.

Step 1 — Remove the old lenses

Hold the frame firmly with your thumb on the inside of the lens, near the nose bridge. Push gently outward while supporting the frame rim with your other hand. The lens should pop out of the groove. Work around the edge if it resists — never force from a corner.

Step 2 — Position the new lens

Each lens is cut for its side: check the curve and any markings before you start. Align the nose side first, seating the edge of the lens into the frame groove.

Step 3 — Snap it in

With the nose side seated, press the lens into the groove working toward the outer edge with firm, even pressure from your thumbs. You will hear and feel a soft click when it seats fully. Run your finger around the rim — the lens should sit flush with no gaps.

Step 4 — Check your work

• Both lenses sit flush in the frame, no visible gaps at the edges.
• No stress marks or flexing when you gently squeeze the frame.
• Clean with the included microfiber bag before wearing.
